Surgical crown lengthening involved removing some of the excess tissue around the tooth, and removing some of the excess bone around the tooth. The goal is to move the bone level 3mm away from your crown margin. This will give your general dentist the access needed to properly prepare your restoration. This will also permit your gum tissue to form a tight biologic seal around the tooth so the area is maintained in a state of health. You need to wait 6 weeks after the surgical crown lengthening before you can get your final restoration.
