Our office has been in the forefront of implant placement in Spokane. has been placing implants since 1987. A data base was kept from 1987-2000. Overall a 97.3% success rate was obtained. And we have continued to maintain our data base. has placed over 2,500 implants with the same success rate. Dr. David Engen has placed nearly 1,000 implants since arriving and is himself averaging 97.6% success rate.
ABSTRACT:
Implant dentistry has evolved and matured since the early days of P.I. Branemark. New technologies, materials, and techniques have made treatment options utilizing implants the new standard of care. In this study we have amassed a sizable amount of data on 1,750 consecutively placed implants in a private practice setting and evaluated them based on seven parameters. 1) Overall success rate: A total of 40 failures were observed out of a total of 1,492 implants, for an overall success rate of 97.3% 2) Effect of location within the mouth: The range of success varied between 95.54% - 98.58% based on location. There is no significant difference in success rate based upon location in the mouth. 3) Effect of implant surface texture on success: The success rate for HA coated implants was slightly greater than machined surfaces 97.86% and 96.08%, respectfully. Other roughened surfaces, such as sand blasted, acid etched, and TPS also showed a higher success rate at 98.32%. 4) Effect of implant length on success: There was a definite correlation between increased length and increased success rate. The longest implants (16mm) showed a 1% failure rate, 13mm implants showed 3.27% failure, 10mm implants showed 3.30% failure and 7 and 8mm implants showed a higher 5.56% failure rate. 5) Effect of timing of surgery on success: There is a slightly higher success rate with immediate implants when compared with delayed implant placement. Immediate implant placement is highly successful in the premolar and anterior regions, but not practical or predictable in the molar regions. 6) Effect of bone grafting on success: Only 5 failures out of 225 implants were observed in grafted sites, indicating no difference in implant survival rates of implants placed into grafted bone or into naturally adequate bone sites; and 7) Effect of implant type on success: Based upon the data in this study, the ScrewVent implant had the highest success rate (98.53%), followed by SteriOss Replace (97.32%), CoreVent (92.38%), and finally the MicroVent implant (89.93%).
