If you are having an periodontal emergency your best bet is to call us. We are all here to serve you, and your comfort is very important to us. Things to be concerned about include uncontrolled bleeding, uncontrolled pain, rash, allergic reactions.

Frequently asked questions:

"I have a lot of swelling."
Swelling is natural after any surgical procedure. Swelling usually peaks at 48 hours, and diminishes after that.

"I get sick from the pain pills."
It is important to take any pain medication with food, otherwise you may get nauseated.

"I see white over my implant."
Many times we use a membrane over the implant to allow for healing. Tissue will grow over this membrane.

"I have bleeding."
Some minor bleeding is common after any surgical procedure. One thing you may try is placing a moist tea-bag on the bleeding site. The tannic acid in the tea bag will help for a clot to speed along your healing. If you have extensive bleeding contact your Periodontist or his assistant immediately.

"I have loose stitches."
If the suture is very loose and hanging you can clip it. Do not clip sutures, however, if it appears that they are still holding the surgical site together.

"My implant fell out."
This is highly unlikely. Often times we are able to place the healing cap at the same time as implant placement. These do come loose from time to time. You need to contact our office right away so we may replace it. If you delay the tissue will start to overgrow the implant and we may need to trim away excess tissue to put the healing cap back on.

"My implant is loose."
If you have a crown on your implant it may be that the crown or abutment are loose but your implant is fine. Occasionally we will see a fractured implant which caused crown loosening. If your crown, abutment, or implant are loose, you need to see our office right away.
