If the dental crowding is mild or moderate, often times we can employ mechanics which will allow us to do orthodontics without having to remove any teeth. Sometimes, however, if crowding is severe, or if there is a skeletal imbalance we may elect to remove selected teeth.

I thought orthodontists didn't do extractions anymore?
For over 100 years orthodontists have fiercely debated whether to extract or not extract, and the pendulum has swung hard both ways a number of times. There are those who will not extract teeth no matter how much it is indicated, while there are others who will indiscriminately extract teeth on every patient who walks through the door. Our office rejects both extremes. Non-extraction is a treatment modality, not a treatment goal. We will remove teeth only when it is required.

Will there be spaces left open?
If extractions are done all spaces will be closed up.
