“Interactive Experts Workshop (Round-table)”

Course Description:
In the tradition and format of our Round Table Question sessions, we are doing a “Meet the Experts” session.  This interactive experts’ workshop will allow you the opportunity to ask questions from multiple experts in many different fields. You will learn how they handle the challenges of certain issues and will come away with solutions to problems you may encounter.

Please be thinking of an issue or question you face in your day to day patient care in the areas of: Endodontics, Pedodontics, Restorative, TMJ, Esthetics, Oral Surgery, Osteoporosis, Physical Therapy, Endocrinology, Botox , General Medicine, OBGYN, Nutrition, Ergonomics and a Pharmaceutical.

Come with questions for each of these areas. The more questions you have the more you will take away from the round table experience.

Learning Objectives:  

You will walk away with a broad understanding of multiple disciplinary topics and how they interact with what we do in our day to day lives in dentistry.

“Local Anesthesia – Facts and Near Facts”
Presented by Dr. Art Dimarco

Arthur C. DiMarco, DMD
Art DiMarco is Director of the EWU / UW RIDE Program (Regional Initiatives in Dental Education) at Riverpoint, associate professor of dental hygiene at EWU, and an affiliate faculty member at the University of Washington, School of Dentistry.  Dr, Dimarco has presented at both regional and international conferences on topics which include local anesthesia, advanced local anesthesia, and teamwork in dental practice.  A veteran of nearly 30 years of clinical practice and over 15 years in the dental, dental hygiene, and dental assisting education, he is author of the Local Anesthesia Laboratory Manual at EWU, co-author of the chapter on Local Anesthesia in Mosby's Dental Hygiene: Concepts, Cases, & Competencies, 2nd Edition, and of the soon to be released text, Local Anesthesia for Dental Professionals, Pearson Prentice Hall.

Course Description:
This course will provide a two part overview of several different topics in local anesthesia.  The first half involves a discussion of what is new in dental local anesthesia including the latest advances in needleless and computer-controlled local anesthesia along with an answer to the question, “Is aspiration more accurate with electronic systems?” Also discussed will be the newest drug formulation (what is it and is it as safe and as effective as current drugs?) as well as the latest information on articaine.  The second half involves a two-part interactive session in which modifications for medical compromise and case studies regarding safety will be presented for feedback and discussion.

Lauralee Nygaard, DDS, MS
Dr. Lauralee Nygaard received her DDS degree and Masters in Periodontology from Loma Linda University School of Dentistry. She is director of the Meridian Dental Study Group and co-director of the Inland Northwest Dental Hygiene Study Club.
Dr. Nygaard maintains a full time private practice Limited to Periodontics and Dental Implants in Spokane Valley, Washington.

Course description:
This course will identify indications for connective tissue graft treatment as well as describe the surgical procedure. It will answer pre-operative questions and cover the common post operative concerns so the participant will be able to identify clinical indications for CT graft treatment and be able to explain the procedure, recovery and post treatment outcomes.

Learning Objectives:

• Identify mucogingival defects and time line for treatment.
• Understand lack of attached gingival tissues and risks associated with tooth loss.
• Understand treatment indications for Connective Tissue Grafts.
• Become familiar with Connective Tissue Graft Surgical procedure.
• Understand risks associated with treatment.
• Understand risks associated with no treatment.
• Identify the best time for referral and treatment to maximize success.
• Understand the alternative treatment options.
• Discuss growth factors used in conjunction with CT grafts.
• Become familiar with unique applications for Connective Tissue Graft procedures.
