Cold season is here, from Drs. Engen and Hahn

October 21st, 2011

Cold and flu season is here – Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says that a common cold usually includes sneezing, runny nose, sore throat and coughing. Symptoms can last for up to two weeks.

To promote a healthy and clean environment, Drs. David Engen and Rudolf Hahn and our entire staff give a great deal of attention to sanitation and sterilization in our offices at all times, as well as following all requirements for sterilizing instruments and work surfaces. For the protection of other patients and our staff at the offices of Drs. Engen & Hahn, we always ask that patients reschedule their appointments if they have any type of cold or illness that can infect others.

And remember to constantly wash your hands and avoid contact with those who are ill! Stay healthy!

October is National Orthodontic Health Month!

October 14th, 2011

Happy October! For those who don’t know, it’s National Orthodontic Health Month. This month-long event is organized by our pals at the American Association of Orthodontists, or AAO.

Dr. David Engen and our team realize that this is a great opportunity for us to raise awareness about the importance of oral hygiene. National Orthodontic Health Month also aims to recognize the dedicated work of orthodontists like Dr. Engen and other dental professionals in Spokane, WA.

The AAO recommends patients avoid the following Halloween treats, or recipes with these ingredients:

• Caramel
• Nuts
• Popcorn (including un-popped kernels)
• Taffy
• Jelly beans
• Hard pretzels
• Licorice
• Bubblegum
• Ice

If you have any questions, please feel free to give us a call, ask us on Facebook, or ask Dr. Engen during your visit this month!

How has the Internet changed our practice?

October 7th, 2011

At the office of Drs. David Engen and Rudolf Hahn, we are committed to serving our patients’ needs in the best and most efficient ways possible. In order to do so, we stay up-to-date on the latest technology that is available to us. For example, the Internet has impacted our office in very positive ways:

• We provide each patient with a business card that includes our web address along with their paper work. This way our patient’s are able to see who we are and what we offer before coming in for their initial visit!
• Patients appreciate the convenience of paying their bills online.
• We have e-mail appointment reminders for patients’ upcoming dental visits.
• Patients are able to confirm their appointments online.
• Our electronic newsletters are well-received by our patients.
• Patients are able to go on our website and get answers to frequently asked questions about the different services we offer.
• We are able to send and receive digital radiographs between offices, providing quicker service and better communication for our patients.
• Each patient is asked how they would like to be contacted for their appointments. We offer several communication options including home and cell phone, text messaging and email.

Our patients are important to us and we strive to provide them with only the best experiences in our office. See you at your next appointment!

Dr. David Engen Announces the Opening of Our Ritzville Office

September 29th, 2011

Do you get compliments on your smile? Our patients do! Dr. David Engen and our entire team are so excited that we will soon be able to serve patients at our new Ritzville office location. We will be opening the new orthodontic office on October 24, 2011. Give us a call today to reserve a complimentary orthodontic screening at our new location!

The American Association of Orthodontists recommends the orthodontist see children by age 7 to advise if orthodontic treatment is required. Usually we will watch your child grow up. The optimal time for treatment is when kids are hitting their growth spurt, which in females is 10.5-11 years, while in males it is 11-11.5 years old. Timing at these ages allows us to use orthodontic mechanics to guide growth in a favorable direction. Occasionally we will do early treatment only if there is an underlying skeletal problem. Generally, our office is more conservative, and will only intervene early when it is necessary. At the initial examination Dr. Engen will be able to determine if any early treatment is necessary for your child.

Be sure to stay tuned in the upcoming weeks as we share new pictures and information from our upcoming office opening on Facebook. We look forward to seeing patients at our new Ritzville office location!
